How good is Boost Mobile's coverage compared to Verizon's?

I currently have a Verizon phone, but I want to have web capability and more minutes/texts. It would be much cheaper to go with Boost Mobile's plan ($50 per month for unlimited talk, text, web, and walkie-talkie nationwide - no other fees ever).

Boost Mobile uses Sprint's network, and I'm worried that I won't get as good reception / area coverage than I do now with Verizon. How does their network compare?

Well, honestly it is all relative. Boost is better then subnational carriers like Metro /Cricket but sucks compared to Verizon nationwide, though there are places they can get a signal and VZ can't and vice versa, Vz just covers more. Boost isn't even available in at least two states. Vz is everywhere. The biggest issues to me about Boost walkie talkie (there is a better one that is called Boost cdma that is still around if almost forgotten, I use that one. It is the one that REALLY runs on the Sprint network. The Walkie Talkie Boost runs on the long neglected Nextel network which got bought out by Sprint). is calls dropping/not going through, slow/unreliable texts and a 2g web that maxes out at around 25 Kbps.

In short, I don't recommend it.

Want Verizon coverage without the Verizon price? Try Page Plus. They are a Verizon airtime reseller who have been around for over 10 years . They run on the Verizon prepaid network , which is slighly smaller then the regular Verizon network but they allow roaming and added a heckuva lot of new coverage because of their merger with Alltel last year.

They have a new unlimited talk/text/20 megs web plan for 39.95. No tax. And they can use ANY Verizon phone ever made. Even ones that can't be activated on regular Verizon prepaid anymore like the Startac from Motorola. Talk /text is easy. Web programming may need some work though.

No contract, no credit check. They are a true prepaid.

Okay, their one weak point. No unlimited web. There are several ways around this. If you have a smartphone, use wifi a lot. Extra meg of data is 60 cents a meg after you run out of the 20. That can add up real fast in overages.

If it is a regular Verizon phone, NOT a smartphone/pda/pocket pc/blackberry and not a regular phone with a full html browser (like the Razr2) then you can check with a Page Plus dealer for the dual nam trick . There are two numbers on most Vz handsets. Program one to have Page Plus and unlimited talk/text. Then Program your second number to have Verizon prepaid and their unlimited dollar a day web plan. You are charged only on days used for the web. You don't use it , you don't pay.
A dollar a day unlimited web on wap or 60 cents a meg on another phone with html? Your call.

Check Howardforums.com or ask a dealer. That way you have both unlimited talk/text and web.

Btw, they are flooded right now with questions because this plan launched only two weeks ago. Be patient until they can adjust to this new level of activity. Boost Mobile went through the same growing pains when their Unlimited plan came out 7 months ago.
