What is the EXACT way to put a screen protector on a Nintendo DSi?
I have tried once before, but my results were less than satisfactory, leaving small air bubbles across the screen. Unfortunately, I had to use the screen guard originally intended for the top screen, with slightly less bubbles, but bubbles still existent, nonetheless. I need incredibly specific, grammatically accurate instructions on how to effectively apply a screen cover, leaving no bubbles whatsoever. Also, I would be greatly appreciated if someone were to offer insight as to the best way to remove the existent cover without damaging the screen.
Two very tricky questions for the price of one!
Applying a touchscreen protector:
I'm going to assume you're using one of the brands which is pre-cut to the exact size of your DS screen, using a DS screen without a lip, and has a tab for easily removing the backing from the sticky part. And that the backing is flexible (semirigid plastic or waxed paper, not cardboard or glossy paperboard)
First-clean the DS screen. There are any number of alcohol-based screen cleaners in the computer section of your friendly local electronics store that will work fine.
Second-wash your hands thoroughly. Focus on getting all the grease off your fingertips.
Third-lay the screen, backing and all, on your DS. Make sure you have a feel for how it lines up before you remove the backing.
Fourth-peel the backing off one corner of your screen protector. Fold the backing so the actual screen protector is as straight as possible, and attach this corner to the DS. Make sure you line it up perfectly, as if it's wrong here it's gonna be wasted, and they don't usually re-stick so you can't just peel it off and readjust.
Fifth-peel the backing a little further, slowly rolling the screen protector onto the screen so that it pushes the air out as it goes. The better sets have a special applicator that makes this easier, but any piece of cardboard or a spoon will work just fine.
That should do the trick for getting it on; for getting it off, those air bubbles are actually your friends. If one is a sort of crease going all the way to the edge, try and slide something like the tine of a plastic fork into the gap and worry at the edges to bring up the screen protector; if it's on too solidly, a plastic knife might be able to slide under the edges and allow you to peel it off all in one piece. Under no circumstances would I recommend using a knife, pin, paperclip, or any sort of metal instrument - much like teflon, the plastic scratches easily (thus the protector!) The rigid plastic blister-pack that so many electronics products come in these days is just about perfect though - cut a rounded edge, shaped like a plastic butter knife, and use that to peel up a corner. If it won't grab, fold your utensil until it is rigid enough.
