Is my gsm mobile phone being located?
hi all,
i suspect my mobile phone is being located and I'm trying to understand how it is possible.
I've seen an answer about software that may be installed on the mobile remotely, but i did not find any specific info.
What kind of software is that? And how may i discover if it is on my mobile?
The question is why do you think your mobile is being located?
I'm sure the answer is some place else.
Your mobile is reporting frequently to at least one cell. Probably up to six in urban environments. All you can tell, from looking at the information of the network, is that you are in a circular area around that cell.
Let's say that you're in the middle of a long road far away from urban areas. Most likely, you're reporting to the only cell with coverage there. I can guess that you're over the route one side or the other of that cell. If you're moving and I see you changing from one cell to the next, I can guess where you're heading.
In urban areas, it's theoretically possible to triangulate your position because you're reporting to many cells. And, adding the power of the signal to the equation, is possible to reduce some of the circles. However, all the concrete and metal structures make the signals bounce and get one way or the other indirectly. So, I wouldn't say it's an accurate way to locate you.
And, the most important factor, it's not so easy to do that. You have to check information from many sources and analyze it. Maybe the phone company is doing it, I can't say. But why would they waste resources tracking you?
