I have heard Vizio are not good looking for cheap but high quality flat screen is that LCD or Plasma; HELP I know there are some less expensive but high quality flat screens; now is there a difference between plasma or LCD: I am looking to buy a 42 inch or something like that; I bought my last one at Sams and loved it; I have heard people are selling a ton of flat screens at pawn shops; can anyone give me some advice on what i should buy i want it to match up with a blue ray video player; any help would be appreciated; thanks
Vizio is an okay up and coming manufacturer. They show potential but are not there yet. Their image quality is still a notch below the top tier brands. Their reliability, at least on some models, comes into question when you look at user comments on various online retailer sites.
Panasonic, Sony, and Samsung should be the main three you look to. Though Sharp, LG, and Toshiba are also very capable manufacturers. Looking towards those six will serve you well. I would recommend avoiding other brands.
At 40" - 42", I would personally recommend you a V or W series Sony Bravia LCD or a Panasonic Viera Plasma S or G series. I think one of those models would serve you extremely well for TV viewing, BluRay viewing, and/or gaming.
Look to Amazon, Best Buy, and ABC Warehouse. Pit them against each other. See if Best Buy or ABC Warehouse will beat or price match Amazon. I think that will get you your best price/deal for what you're looking for.
Panasonic TC-P42S1 42" 1080p Plasma - $765 Amazon / $899 ABC Warehouse
Panasonic TC-P42G10 42" 1080p Plasma - $865 Amazon
Panasonic TC-P42G15 42" 1080p Plasma - $1,169 ABC Warehouse
Sony KDL-40V5100 40" 1080p 120Hz LCD - $880 Amazon / $879 ABC Warehouse
Sony KDL-40W5100 40" 1080p 120Hz LCD - $1,070 Amazon / $1,069 ABC Warehouse
The Panasonic G series is about as good as you can own at 42". If you wanted a comparable option to that from Sony you'd have look at the XBR line or the Series 7 or 8 from Samsung. Both of which would be hundreds of dollars more.
The G15 and G10 are almost the same TV. The G15 updated something in the line and so the G10's are being liquidated. So you can find some good deals on that right now. But you're buying a top of the line, flagship quality, HDTV with the G10. So I'd certainly keep an eye out for that. Otherwise the S1 is a very capable option as well (just gives up a bit of contrast to the G series).
