How do I remove the rear brake drum from a 1999 Mazda 121, (ford fiesta under the skin)?
I am trying to get at the shoes, but the rear axle nut has what seems to be a locking device fitted over it, and covers the side and face of the nut and is made of spring steel.
It could be prised open with a screwdriver but I would have to break it off completely to fit a socket around the nut.
Any help appreciated. thanks
The axle nut should not be holding the brake drum in place. If there's a threaded screw hole somewhere on the drum surface, try threading a screw into the hole to force the drum off the shoes. Remember to release your parking brake and keep pulling side to side to remove the drum. Keep pulling on the drum and it should start coming off. Put some gloves on your hands to help.
