If a plant seed, do i need to remove the outer casing if there is one?
I have some seeds and for a week now they have been sitting in some wet paper towels and have done nothing. I squeezed one and its shell cracked, i went on to remove half the case and the seed inside looked white but alive. should it be white and should i remove the casings or at least crack them for the others??
It depends on what the seeds are from. If the outside shell is very hard they will need some help. Crack the shell if necessary or steep them in warm water overnight. Some require passing through a bird or other animal to digest the outer shell. You can help these along by straining them through water. This removes the chemicals which stop them from germinating too close to the parent plant.
