Can I activate ANY unlocked CDMA phone on my present Verizon Wireless plan?

I really don't understand this whole thing, but I'm looking for a cheap replacement phone to activate on my existing account. I know Verizon is CDMA, so I'm assuming only unlocked CDMA phones would work on it, but will ANY unlocked CDMA work? And are there any additional costs (through Verizon) to have the new unlocked phone activated?
